Planning a family holiday can be daunting, especially when choosing a hotel from afar. Our recent 10-night stay at the Bahia del Sol in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca, gave us plenty of insights into this 4-star hotel. Here’s an honest review to help you decide if it’s the right choice for your next getaway.

Prime Location and First Impressions
Situated just a five-minute walk from Santa Ponsa’s beach, shops, and restaurants, the Bahia del Sol boasts a convenient location. The nearby Scottish pub, The Jaggy Thistle, and a handy baguette shop are just a short stroll away. However, parking can be tricky, as the free car park is a bit of a hike from the main entrance. Pro tip: drop off your luggage before parking to avoid lugging bags up steep steps.
The hotel itself makes a great first impression with its clean, modern exterior and welcoming staff, setting a positive tone for the stay.

Room Experience: Junior Suite
We stayed in a junior suite designed for three people. The room was clean, well-maintained, and offered lovely views. However, the layout—with two single beds pushed together and a sofa bed in the same space—lacked privacy. The balcony, though scenic, only had seating for two, which felt odd for a room meant for three.

Dining: A Mixed Bag
The hotel’s restaurant is spacious, and food is replenished regularly. While the variety caters well to most guests, vegetarians may find the options disappointing. Many dishes unnecessarily included meat, leaving limited choices like salad, chips, and plain pasta. The menu leaned heavily towards Spanish and German tastes, which might not suit everyone.

Facilities and Entertainment
The hotel features two outdoor pools, which, while clean, are on the smaller side and can get crowded. The indoor pool and spa area are available but were underutilized during our summer visit. Entertainment is basic, with singers performing a few nights a week, but the friendly atmosphere and attentive staff, like Sarah from the entertainment team, make up for it.

All-Inclusive Package
The all-inclusive package includes a good selection of drinks, from cocktails to soft drinks. However, the rooftop Sky Bar isn’t part of the package, and all extras must be paid by card or added to your room bill—cash isn’t accepted.

What We Loved
- Location: Close to the beach and local amenities.
- Staff: Friendly and attentive service.
- Cleanliness: Well-maintained rooms and public areas.
- Drinks: A wide variety of beverages included in the package.

Areas for Improvement
- Vegetarian Options: More inclusive dining choices are needed.
- Pool Size: Larger pools would better accommodate guests.
- Sky Bar: Including it in the all-inclusive package would be a nice touch.
- Room Layout: More privacy in family rooms would be appreciated.

Final Thoughts
The Bahia del Sol offers a comfortable, clean, and well-located base for exploring Santa Ponsa. While it’s not without its flaws, the friendly staff and excellent location make it a solid choice for families and couples. Just be prepared for limited vegetarian options and consider the room layout if privacy is a priority.
Would we stay again? Probably, but we’d pack some snacks for variety!
