North America is a popular holiday destination. America contains many countries each with its own culture, attractions and weather. But where is the best time to visit some of these places?
The United States
The United States is very big and therefore the best time to visit can vary by area and state. If you are looking to visit New York the best weather occurs from May – September. However, if you are willing to layer up, January and February can be the cheapest. If you are looking for good temperatures but without the summer crowds, late spring and early autumn is the best.
If you are looking to visit Florida, the best time is November – June. Florida is often hit but the hurricane season of July – November (particularly September and October) and you should avoid this if you are looking for good weather. If you are visiting the theme parks, January and February tend to have the cheapest holidays with the shortest queues.
If California is your ideal location, you might want to consider going in during March-May. Temperatures are good and you will get better deals on your holiday compared with going June – September. Some places in California actually get their best weather in early autumn. In places like San Francisco, it is better to visit in September. If you are wanting to visit California’s grapevines, autumn is the best time to do so.
If you wish to visit Nevada to try your luck in Las Vegas, the best time to go is spring and autumn. During the winter it can be very cold, but rarely snows and the summer can be very hot but the casinos have air conditioning so you can visit all year round but spring and autumn have a warm temperature and it is cheaper.
The Caribbean
The Caribbean is a favourite for people looking for some sun. Countries such as Jamaica, Dominica and Cuba have consistent all-year-round warm weather. However the best time to visit the Caribbean is from December – April. You might want to try to avoid visiting during July – November (particularly September and October) as this is hurricane season in the Caribbean. Unless of course, you are a storm chaser!
A holiday during April or November will be the cheapest and quietest with June and July being the busiest and most expensive because many places will increase prices during school holidays.
The Caribbean contains over 7,000 islands making up 25 nations and therefore each has its national holidays and celebrations which you may wish to research before booking to ensure you can make the most of local attractions. For example, St. Lucia celebrates its independence day on February 22nd. It is a national holiday so many shops and attractions are closed but there are often candlelit parades.
Canada
If you are planning on visiting the east of Canada, for example, Toronto, the best time to go is June to September as the weather is warm and pleasant. July and August have the most rainfall however it is still pleasant. If you are planning to visit Niagara Falls, June – August is the best time if you want good weather, longest opening hours for attractions and shuttle busses.
If you are visiting the west of Canada, for example, Vancouver, April – October has the best weather. During this time it is whale watching season as humpback, orcas, grey and minke whales migrate through Vancouver waters. You might want to consider planning to see the whales on your holiday.
Also in the west of Canada September – November sees a return in salmon in large numbers and therefore an increase in bears. If you are going to Canada hoping to see bears, this is the best time to go.
