Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country. It is mostly known for beautiful beaches and diverse cultures. Did you know that Malaysia has influences from Malay, China, and Europe? This mean’s it’s full of wonderful experiences just waiting for you to discover. However, you will find that Malaysia isn’t on the top of everyone’s list when it comes to holiday destinations. But I am here to tell you that it should be somewhere you spend some time at some point in your life. With that in mind here are some of the places to consider when travelling here for a holiday.
Kuala Lumpur
We can’t discuss Malaysia without mentioning the capital city. Kuala Lumpur is a bustling and exciting city. It has a really modern skyline and has bags of personality. While there you must take in the two towers that dominate Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. They offer a public sky bridge and observation deck giving you amazing views of the city. In KL, as the locals affectionately refer to it, it is all about the food. Any foodie would be in heaven in this city. You have all the cultural influence in one place. It is worth a visit that is for sure.
Johor Bahru
This city is the capital of the Johor state near the Malay Peninsula. The city is well known for its amazing shopping malls and nightlife. This city has a big connection with Singapore. Its been criticised in the past for not being one of the best places to go, but in recent years the reputation has been changed drastically. There are some major attractions around so if you need to find accommodation close to all the action, you won’t be disappointed. There is something in this city to suit all budgets.
Kuching
This charming city is the capital of the Malaysian state of Sarawak and Borneo. It is a bustling city with old colonial buildings and a really different atmosphere than some of the other destinations mentioned. If you love to shop in the heart of the culture, then consider heading down to the Sarawak riverfront. Here you will find many shophouses selling handcrafted items and unique pieces. A shopaholic’s paradise.
George Town
If you were after a multicultural experience, then George Town is the place to be. It’s a colourful and vibrant city that is the capital of the Malaysian state of Penang. This place once you to be a hub for trading but has since calmed that side of things down. This city is mostly known for its British colonial buildings. Not to mention the Chinese shophouse and beautiful picturesque mosques. The old town is the most pretty part, but beyond that, you still have a fairly modern city with a pretty impressive skyline.
While we have mentioned the amazing cities this vast country has to offer there is so much more to this place than meets the eye. The shopping is phenomenal, the food elements are amazing, and let’s not even discuss the beaches. Okay, maybe we should. The white sandy beaches are totally unspoilt and are simply beautiful.
