Summer is here, and our thoughts are often focused more on the family vacation. That snippet of time where you get some quality bonding action and a chance to rejuvenate from the daily grind. However, we can all be a little guilty of sticking with the same location or even the type of vacation we take. Beach, anyone? So I thought I would share with you some of the best places to consider if you are thinking of changing things up a little and having more of a family adventure. You won’t be disappointed.

Northern California
California is a diverse state with plenty of bustling cities like Los Angeles, but heading to San Francisco or the Northern Counties means that you can take in the delights of Yosemite National Park. Known as one of the most beautiful national parks, this place is full of hiking trails, valleys, and spectacular waterfalls to witness. Furthermore, you can even obtain a permit to camp outside of the camping territories to make your adventure even more exciting. Once you have finished with that, then explore San Jose or San Francisco to end what could be a fantastic vacation.
Pennsylvania
It may not be a state that you would normally consider vacationing in, but it might well surprise you. If you want family fun and adventure, then there are plenty of things to do in Lancaster County that won’t disappoint. Refreshing Mountain, for example, has plenty of action-packed adventures such as zip lines and hiking experiences that the whole family will enjoy. Also, you might find yourself also exploring the city of Philadelphia, visiting the Liberty Bell, or even relaxing by Lake Erie.
Maine
If camping is more your thing, then look no further than the North-East state of Maine. Knowns as the pine tree state this place is rich in forests providing ample amounts of opportunities for any camping enthusiasts. Especially heading to Acadia National Park. Plus with 6000 lakes, and up to 32,000 miles of streams and rivers, there will always be some adventure awaiting in this state.
New York
The state of New York is mostly more well-known than New York City, and while that place can be an adventure in itself for a family with all the shopping opportunities and the endless things you can do, why not consider heading to a different part of the state and exploring Minnewaska State Park Preserve? With hiking and camping opportunities this place could prove to be the real family adventure vacation you were hoping for. Combining with a little retail therapy what more could be loved about this vacation idea?
Maryland
Finally, if you still want to combine your adventure vacation with your love of beaches, then the state of Maryland is for you. How does a night under the stars camping by the beach sound? Heavenly? Or enjoy the island life that is filled with coastal bays and an array of exotic horses? Then Assateague could be the place.
I hope this has inspired you to consider some alternative destinations for your summer vacation.
